What is remote patient monitoring (RPM)?

RPM lets you track vital signs outside the clinic and alert the care team when something is out of range. It's a support tool, not a replacement for clinical judgment.

What is RPM?

RPM (Remote Patient Monitoring) is the tracking of a person's vital signs outside the health center, via devices that send readings to the clinical system. It allows following up with chronic or recovering patients without requiring them to be present.

Which vital signs are monitored?

Heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO₂), blood pressure and temperature are usually tracked. Devices can integrate via standards such as FHIR R4, which defines how clinical data is shared between systems.

How do alerts work?

The system compares each reading against thresholds configured by the professional based on the patient's condition. When a value crosses the threshold, an alert reaches the care team. A good alert engine filters low-confidence readings to avoid false alarms.

Does RPM replace the medical consultation?

No. RPM provides continuous data that supports clinical decisions, but interpretation and decisions remain the responsibility of the healthcare professional. Its value is in detecting changes early and prioritizing care.
