Types of SRI electronic documents

The SRI defines several electronic documents. Knowing what each is for prevents emission errors and reconciliation problems.

What is an electronic invoice?

The invoice is the document that backs the sale of a good or the provision of a service. It details the items, taxes (such as VAT) and totals, and identifies the buyer. It's the most common document and the basis of tax compliance for most businesses.

When are credit and debit notes used?

A credit note decreases the value of an already-issued invoice (for returns, later discounts, or corrections in the buyer's favor). A debit note, in contrast, increases the value (for example, interest or additional charges). Both reference the original document.

What is a withholding receipt?

The withholding receipt is issued by the party acting as a withholding agent to document the VAT or income-tax amounts withheld in a transaction. It is key for tax reconciliation between the parties.

What are the waybill and the purchase settlement?

The waybill (guía de remisión) supports moving goods between locations, identifying origin, destination and reason. The purchase settlement is used when the buyer issues the document instead of the seller, in the cases the regulation allows.
